Time flies. I'm sitting in my parent's house on a Wednesday night. My brother, sister and my son and othes are looking through all the snapshots we can dig up. My dad passed away yesterday and we're getting pics together for the funeral home to do a slide show. What a shock. It's the phone call everyone dreads. It's the phone call that sends you into some out of body experience. We spent today making funeral plans and choosing burial plots. My dad was a very smart man. And a caring man. My mom was able to pick what she wanted and not worry about how it would be paid for. Mama found my dad lying in their hallway. The 20 year old kid across the street came over and tried to do CPR but it was too late. Anyway, there it is. A new stage of life begins. One without a father. Visitation on Friday, funeral on Saturday. And after that... how do you go back to what you were doing before?

Wow, time is flying! I've adopted a cat ("Mouse"). That's the name he had when I got him from the humane society. He thinks he's an indoor cat but we're working on that. He only spends the nights inside in a kennel. When the big bag of kitty litter runs out, he'll find himself outside all the time. He's supposed to be mousing and snaking. I found a snake skin about 30 or so feet from my back door. It was 3-4' long. Don't know what kind... it doesn't matter: it was a snake! I've also adopted a puppy. Get to pick her up next weekend... she's got to be fixed. And then I'm gonna get some chickens!! Free range, of course... roosting in the trees. They are supposed to like bugs and scorpions. I killed my first scorpion in the house this week. The wind sucked the cover off the deer feeder in front of the house and the corn got damp and some of it has even sprouted. The squirrels apparently love it. I've been told they get drunk on it. Gotta get a water storage tank. And a string mower to cut the grass with, because of all the rocks. Gotta get a storage building. Gotta go!!! Too much to do.

Here at the library on a Wednesday evening. Can't get to church this late; it'll be over by the time I get there. But I'm glad I'm off every weekend now. Saturday I'm supposed to go to a co-worker's ranch and dig up some Mountain Laurels! And I'll try to go to the animal shelter to find a dog (maybe). And my brother wants me to come to his place and shoot some of his guns, to find one that "fits" me. Flash flooding in the Hill Country right now. And does anybody else get horrible headaches every time it rains??

Doing yard work here is harder! There's a whole lot more walking to get from one side of the place to the other! but I love it. Deer all over the place. Songbirds. I joined the choir at church. I don't sing well... I just try to mimic whoever I'm standing next to. Work has gotten better. I'm supervising trustees in the kitchen, preparing and serving lunch and dinner. So instead of the 12 hour days, I'm only doing 8 hours, Monday through Friday! Yay, I got my life back! And I'm hoping I'll have more opportunity to enter into some serious discussions with some of these "poor, misguided souls". I had an inmate tell me he believes the New Testament was written by Shakespeare! Went to a gun show today. It's either gonna be a dog or gun. Guns don't require feeding or petting. I'm thinking of getting a concealed handgun license. And I thought I was gonna learn how to golf! Saw my first family of wild hogs last weekend! 2 adults and 8 babies. And apparently, the wild turkeys are moving around. It's so much fun to see them and hear them in the woods.
